[Podcast] Stirring Things Up With Troy Escamilla

This week The Thug, Justin, and Zane sit down with writer/director Troy Escamilla. Troy shares his love of 80’s horror as well as Christmas horror. Troy speaks of how the 80’s decade of horror films and his affinity for Christmas horror have influenced his work; especially in his most recent film “Stirring”.

“Stirring” is currently making its run around the Film Festival circuit and is due for a DVD, VOD release in November of this year. Meanwhile, his film Party Night is currently available on DVD.  The guys get into the film festivals and discuss the competition as well as the unfair advantages that some of them pose.

Troy also speaks to the heartache associated with cutting scenes. The big issue with stirring is there is a certain scene which distributors have asked him to cut out. Although this seems like it could be a compromise of artistic integrity one must decide what they feel is the right choice when it comes to what the distribution companies want. The specific scene is discussed in detail. Personally, the guys felt they had seen much worse but you be the judge; is it too offensive?

We also get to learn about what Troy’s day job is and how that parlayed him into filmmaking. Troy also discusses the struggles of making a Christmas horror film in the middle of summer in Houston, Texas. Sit back, grab a candy cane and let the infestation consume you. Fa la la la la!
